THE BASE SETTING (3 of 4)
How tools, like songs and memories, distract your mind enough to let the connection become palpable to you.
In the last post I wrote about a fox, eleven rabbits that escaped their pen and a bridge I had always needed to reach full connection — a role, a context, something that gave me permission to be completely present. Midwife. Mother. Group leader. Without the bridge, connection became management. A checklist instead of contact.
What I want to write about now is what happened after I saw that clearly. A follow-up, so to speak. (substack; ‘the bridge’)
A few weeks ago, before any of this, I had asked Hilarion (see my substack post on religion) for help with something specific — finding my crowd, connecting with the people seeing what I make. He gave me something simple. Find a memory, or a song attached to a memory, from a time when connection had been at its deepest and where I felt most alive. Let it open something in the base of the body — the root chakra. Then connect that feeling to the heart.
I did it. It worked immediately. I could feel things being pulled toward me — not because I was reaching for them, but because of some magnetic quality the open state itself seemed to have.
I thought I was learning a manifestation technique.
I wasn’t.
After the fox and the rabbits — after seeing that I had always needed a bridge for full connection, and that the bridge itself was the problem — I went back to what Hilarion had given me. And I understood it differently. After having taken into meditation the connection with memories that had brought me deep feelings of flow for some weeks I realized the memories and the songs were never the point. They were a door. A way to give my mind something concrete to hold onto while something real happened underneath it.
Once I became aware of my root chakra being open a few times due to my meditation ‘way’, I began noticing it was also open outside of my meditation. No memory required. No song required. Just focusing on it was enough to feel it.
And what flows through it, when I become aware of it being open, is not “manifestation energy.” It is pure life energy.
And Pure Life Energy is, in fact, Connection.
The same connection I had been missing with the rabbits. The same connection I have only ever found in separate islands — with our dog sometimes, with specific people, in specific moments. The same connection that was always there during my deepest experiences — the Vipassana, the desert in Australia, the intensive with Michael Roads and in leading groups myself. All of it, one thing, accessed through different doors.
A few days after this realization, I had a separate experience that confirmed it from another direction entirely.
I had heard someone say that everyone carries a kind of divine particle in the thymus — and that breathing into it consciously was a way to connect to source. I asked Yeshua if this was true.
He said yes. He said everyone is connected to source, whether they can feel it or not. It is the base setting of being human. The practices — breathing into the thymus, opening a chakra, whatever form they take — are not techniques for creating the connection. They are ways of becoming conscious of what is already there. The same way I became conscious of my root chakra being open. All is there already, it is just obscured.
I told him I wasn’t sure I had ever actually felt this connection to source. Maybe I had only believed I did.
He said: once you feel it, you know.
I asked for help. He told me to focus on my thymus.
I found out afterward that this was mostly a diversion — something for my mind to hold onto, the same function the memories and songs had served with Hilarion. While I was doing my best to focus there, something else happened entirely. A surge began at the top of my head and moved down, with real pressure. At the same time, the root chakra opened from below. The two met.
There was no question after that. No half-belief. It was, as I said to him, clear as day.
Two completely different methods; the songs and memories next to the focusing on the thymus. Both pointing at exactly the same space. Both using a diversion for the mind so that something real could happen underneath it, undisturbed by analysis or doubt.
The root and the crown are not separate channels delivering separate things. They meet in one continuous current. And what moves through that current, by any name — life energy, source, connection — is the same single thing.
And that same single thing IS connection itself.
Think back to your happiest memories, the times in your life where you felt genuinely joyful, where you felt genuinely in flow, where something larger happened inside of you.
You might have connected it to physical experiences; the sun shining in a certain way, a bird singing so beautifully, the wind being exactly right, nature being so extravagant it brought you to tears, being so in love with another human being, feeling such deep peace in meditation, etc etc.
There are many examples.
But when you look deeper, you will see it is not the sun shining, not the wind, not the nature, not the meditation or the other person being so beautiful. It is the connection. You became aware of the connection. And that, exactly that, is what made you so happy, so fulfilled, so in flow.
This is, I think, the actual base setting of being human. Not something to manifest into existence. Not something to build through practice. Something already present, underneath the management, underneath the checklists, underneath every bridge we construct to give ourselves permission to feel it.
The work was never to create the connection.
It was only ever to stop interrupting it.
To be continued…
